We saw 5 states today: Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Virginia. We started the day in Indianapolis and ended it at Sam’s Aunt Sally’s house in Lexington.
We are all tired.
Shortly before 7 p.m., Evie asked if she could go to bed. Felix chimed in, “I want to go to bed, too!” On normal days, we have to drag these kids to bed at 8:30.
It is also lots of fun.
The industrial sized tub of trail mix, less so.
Dunkin’ Donuts is a brand I am glad I tried and would enjoy having in Minnesota.
Bob Evans, less so.
I was initially worried when my phone told us to get off the interstate and cut through Kentucky on a state highway, but we got where we needed to go and the scenery was tranquil and lovely. Hills rolled gently. The world was green, except for the color pop of barns painted with designs resembling quilt squares.
The hills grew taller as we moved east.
Rain fell and mist swirled around the mountains. It was a beautiful and scary thing.
In Lexington, we found warm hospitality, blueberry peach cobbler, and a little bit of quiet respite. Sally and I went for a walk and saw fireflies congregating under low hanging tree branches. If fairies were real, this is a neighborhood they might live in, replete with verdant gardens and narrow paths.
Tomorrow, we’ll take on the last bit of road between us and our nation’s capital.
But first, rest.
